A Searle & Taylor Kitchen on Wigmore Street, W1

For many years, London’s Wigmore Street, just behind Oxford Street, W1, has been lovingly known as ‘Kitchen Alley.’ The plethora of premium national and international kitchen furniture showrooms, and, latterly, experience centres for premium appliance brands, all located next door to each other, has resulted in Wigmore Street becoming a key destination that showcases the very best of the best in luxury kitchen design.

It was, therefore, a huge compliment when our partners at Miele, the premium German appliance brand, commissioned us at Searle & Taylor, in collaboration with master cabinetmaker, Will Grech, to design and make the Theatre Kitchen for the new Miele Experience Centre that opened in April 2025, at 25 Wigmore Street, London W1.

This kitchen has been created to be used by guest chefs and Miele’s own experienced home economists to demonstrate the advanced technologies provided by using Miele’s cooking and wine cooling appliances in a real kitchen environment. It was an absolute honour when the first people to cook in the Theatre Kitchen were Irish chef, Richard Corrigan, three-time winner of the Great British Menu, owner of Michelin-star-awarded London restaurants: Corrigan’s Mayfair, Bentley’s Mayfair and The Portrait at the London Portrait Gallery, together with his team, who made all the delicious canapés at Miele Wigmore Street’s prestigious opening event.

We designed and installed a contemporary handleless open plan kitchen within the extension to the Grade II listed house using cabinetry by Austrian brand, EWE. Throughout the design and installation process, our experienced team were respectful of the character of the property as the extension leads directly from the listed part of the building.

Since 1991 we have been designing and installing contemporary and classic kitchens in heritage and listed buildings across Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and beyond. At Searle & Taylor, we have the specialist knowledge required to ensure that all aspects of a kitchen meet with all required regulations from design to completion.

What is in the Miele Theatre Kitchen by Searle & Taylor?

This beautiful contemporary kitchen comprises a single cooking and cooling run of handled and handleless cabinetry adjacent to a sink run, with a central kitchen island in front. Door fronts are made using our exclusive Starburst dark grey oak matt lacquered veneers, made by Will Grech and exclusive to Searle & Taylor.

These stunning angled timber veneers feature on the tall cabinetry and on the facing side of the 3.1m x 2.2m island. Each door front takes more than two days to finish, but the beautiful starburst effect is exceptional. An architrave with 2mm LED lighting gap in a gloss oak lacquered veneer adds a pop to the aesthetic, and, while tall cabinets feature a pair of doors with the Starburst veneer on the reverse on each side, the LED-lit island shows the Starburst cabinets in an arrangement of horizons that are carefully lit with LED lighting strips flush to the underside. The 50mm waterfall worktop is in Laurent by Dekton, with a 10mm liquid metal insert strip, and cabinetry is complemented by long handles by Hendel & Hendel. All built-in appliances are from Miele Generation 7000 Collection.

What is in the Miele W1 Experience Centre and how does it operate?

Luxury independent kitchen showrooms, such as Searle & Taylor in Winchester, usually feature built-in cooking and cooling appliances by premium appliance brands that they recommend, including those by Miele. However, they rarely have the space to have a full range on display.

If you wish to purchase Miele products that we do not display in our showroom, we can book an appointment on your behalf at the Miele Experience Centre, where their experts will provide demonstrations of all the appliances you may require. You will still buy these appliances through Searle & Taylor, as authorised retailers, when you purchase a complete kitchen through us. This means that we can keep all the ordered appliances safely warehoused, until the date that the kitchen installation begins.

In addition, the capacious two-floor Miele Experience Centre on Wigmore Street also showcases its range of stunning freestanding products, including washing machines and tumble dryers, coffee machines and vacuum cleaners, and these can also be purchased through Searle & Taylor to be delivered sooner, if required.

Starburst Veneers - exclusive to Searle & Taylor

These beautiful starburst veneered fronts, made by master cabinetmaker, Will Grech, are exclusively available from Searle & Taylor. We can design any bespoke kitchen or freestanding furniture pieces using these veneers, and they can be in matt or gloss lacquered finishes - and in a range of colours.

We feature a Starburst gin cabinet and a bespoke circular dining table with a Starburst tabletop in our Winchester kitchen showroom. To find out more, please visit us at our Winchester showroom, or book an appointment.
