If the kitchen is the hub of the home, an island is the hub of the kitchen. In open plan rooms or kitchen diners, it is the divider between kitchen and the rest of the layout. A kitchen island is functional, space-saving, provides extra storage and is an attractive focus of the room. Suiting square or rectangular spaces, a kitchen island can be made to any size and depth, however we recommend that there has to be at least 1.2metres of walkway space around it. This is to ensure that you have enough space behind you when you open a cupboard or fridge door, or the door to the dishwasher. A kitchen island can feature deep drawers and cupboards on one side while it can have decorative open shelving for cookery books on the other. It can have end panels, or waterfall edges, the possibilities are endless.
Within the worktop, you can have a sink and tap installed for food preparation or if the island looks out to a dining area, or a garden, you can have your surface cooking appliances facing out to the rest of the room. You can also have a dishwasher an undercounter fridge or a wine fridge installed in the island. Seating beneath an extended countertop or in front of recessed cabinetry can also be included to make the island a centre for socialising as well. We have designed many different kitchen islands in large and more compact kitchens and in every style from traditional and Shaker versions to ultra-contemporary handleless linear looks. Each one is designed to suit your needs and requirements so you can have the perfect hub in your kitchen.
