Many of our previous clients will remember Dan Munt, our incredibly talented installation expert, who fitted our Searle & Taylor kitchens, utility rooms, bedrooms and boot rooms in their homes. He was in the building and installation business for 33 years, and worked many of them exclusively for Searle & Taylor.

Dan passed away on 18th February this year from natural causes. His passing was sudden, and from us all at Searle & Taylor, we send our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his loving wife, Pam, and his children, Meghna, Duggie and Honey.

Dan was meticulous in his approach, friendly and exceptionally knowledgeable. He understood the intricacies of installing handmade bespoke cabinetry, appliances, handles, sinks, taps and accessories, always ensuring that every aspect of the project was perfect for our clients before he finished any job. He was my most trusted installer, who, in the most recent years, employed and professionally trained two of his adult children, Duggie and Honey, passing on his exceptional installation skills to both of them.

Dan’s professionalism was highly regarded by many of our clients, and he was often mentioned by name in our many five-star reviews on Google. Beneath this tribute are just some of the many fantastic testimonials that were written about him throughout the course of his career.

Dan was also my best friend since our senior schooldays. We were both practical boys, and our shared love of woodwork took us both in the artisanal direction. We would build things together, anything from a skateboard to a bird table, and even as teenagers, we both had heads for business, and we would sell our handcrafted wares at car boot fairs.

After leaving school, and a few short-lived jobs later, we were soon working together again, building furniture and kitchens in a rented farmers workshop. When I started my business at age 18, Dan continued to work as an artisan, and ran his own building business, DJM Builders, before exclusively taking charge of all our installations in 2020. He knew how important it was to provide the best possible service for a business that had his best friend’s name above the door, and he never let me down.

Nigh on 40 years later, I am, and always will be so proud of Dan. He would be pleased to know that he leaves behind a wonderful legacy. His son, Duggie, who has his own formidable skills, now runs his own installation business, working for Searle & Taylor. Dan’s daughter, Honey, who already has a valuable understanding of installation, is now interested in the design side of the business and is learning Auto CAD to be able to design bespoke furniture.
